Gerald Harper, Ph.D., P.Eng (ON.), P.Geo.(ON.) – President & CEO, Director
Dr. Harper is President of Gamah International Limited, a mineral industry consulting firm which is well known for its research and databases on mineral industry financings. He was President of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada from 1998 to 2000 and still represents the Association on several committees. He is a past Chairman of the Kingsway Chapter of Professional Engineers of Ontario. He is a Director of several private and public exploration and mining companies – NWM Mining Corporation (NWM-TSX-V), Urania Ltd., Minfocus International Inc. and 2244223 Ontario Inc. The latter two are actively exploring for platinum group metals in the area where he and Wilson (in 2001) found the mineralized boulders that later led to the drill discovery of the Current Lake deposit by Magma Metals Ltd.
Until June 2009 Gerald Harper was Senior Vice President, Mongolian Operations of Western Prospector Group Ltd, a job which keeps him busy commuting between Toronto, Vancouver, Ulaan baatar and the Gurvanbulag mine site in eastern Mongolia. The Gurvanbulag uranium deposit, previously explored by the Russians, has the potential to be Mongolia’s first uranium mine. On June 28th a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation made a successful takeover bid for control of the company. He was a founder (in 2007) and until he left Mongolia, the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mineral Industry Safety Association of Mongolia.
He grew up in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and worked there and in South Africa before emigrating to Canada in 1970. His doctorate research was directed at structural and geochemical analysis of complexly folded suites of rocks analogous to those of the Zambian Copperbelt. He has worked for several major world mining companies, managing exploration activities, developing mines and managing operating mines.
Kenneth B. de Graaf, M.A.Sc., B.Sc.(Hons.) – Senior Vice President, Director
Mr. de Graaf has an extensive background in international finance and consulting in mineral exploration and development. He was Vice President of Mongolia Operations and a Director of Western Prospector Group Inc. most recently from March 2004 through May 2007 where he was involved in the rediscovery, exploration and development of the Gurvanbulag uranium deposit in Mongolia as well as multiple financings raising over $25 million.
Prior to this time, he was President & C.E.O., and a Director, of Cascadia Mining Inc. and Brant Enterprises Inc, both privately controlled international companies exploring and developing mineral projects in Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia. Before forming Cascadia, Mr. de Graaf worked two major international consulting metallurgical research and development firms for over 12 years, Bacon Donaldson & Associates of Vancouver and Hatch Associates Ltd. of Toronto on projects in Canada, U.S.A. and several international locations.
Mr. de Graaf has a M.A.Sc. (Metallurgical Engineering) from the University of British Columbia and a B.Sc.(Honours)(Chemical Engineering) from Queen’s University, Canada. His technical experience encompasses fundamental research through to industrial process development engineering, including commercial plant commissioning. He also has extensive experience in industrial environmental engineering.
Since 1994 he has established a record of involvement in international financing both private and public companies for international mineral exploration and development projects through private placements and public offerings with institutional investors and major public mining companies (over $50 million US).
Gavin Cooper CA – Chief Financial Officer
Senior executive and Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of public company experience. Mr. Cooper has served recently as Chief Financial Officer with VRB Power Systems Inc., a TSXV listed (2003-2008), President and CEO of Catamaran Ferries International Inc. through the wind-up phase of the BC Government’s fast ferries program (1996- 2001), Also Mr. Cooper was a Senior Audit Manager at Ernst & Whinney in Vancouver, BC; London, UK; and Capetown, South Africa. Mr. Cooper serves currently as Director of two TSXV listed companies, Nevada Geothermal Power and Pinestar Gold Inc.
Graham C. Wilson, B.A.(Hons.), Ph.D., P.Geo. – Director
Raised in England, Graham Wilson is a geologist and mineralogist with diverse interests, including metallic and non- metallic mineral deposits, regional geology, database development, and mineralogical applications to meteorites and archaeological materials. His doctoral thesis (completed December 1980) concerns the geochemistry of lithium in the granites of southwest England. Subsequent work has however been oriented more to heavier elements, and heavier rocks, as foreshadowed by an undergraduate thesis on mafic intrusions of the Tertiary Volcanic District in northwest Scotland.
Since 1985, he has operated a consulting firm, Turnstone Geological Services Limited, working on six continents and producing more than 400 geological and mineralogical reports for clients in business, academia and government. In November 2002, he received P.Geo designation as a professional geoscientist in the province of Ontario (No. 0623). In an age of increased specialization, he is proud to have broad experience, including prospecting, mine-scale and regional exploration; academic duties and applied research; lectures for technical and public audiences; and charitable work. He was affiliated with the University of Toronto, 1981-2004, for most of this time in the capacity of part-time Research Associate at the IsoTrace Laboratory, specializing in mineral analysis, especially of the precious metals (gold, silver and the platinum group elements, PGE), using various microprobe techniques on polished mounts of ore minerals, meteorites and archaeological materials, editing reports, and maintaining a web site. During this time he undertook an increasing load of field-, lab- and library-based consulting projects with emphasis on gold and nickel-copper-PGE.
Mark Selby – B.Comm.(Hons.) – Director
Mr. Selby is currently Senior Vice-President, Business Development of Royal Nickel Corporation, a Toronto Stock Exchange listed issuer and the Principal of Selby & Co., a private consulting firm providing advice to mining companies with respect to base metals and resource equity valuation. Mr. Selby is also and has been since August 2009, a director of Kiska Metals Corporation. Previously, from August 2008 until March 2010, he was the Vice President, Business Planning & Market Research for Quadra FNX Mining Ltd., formerly Quadra Mining Ltd., a leading mid-tier copper mining company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Prior thereto, from January 2007 to August 2008, he was a principal of Selby & Co. Between October 2001 to January 2007, he held the positions of Director, Market Research (2001-2004) and Assistant Vice President Strategic Planning & Business Development (2005-2007) with Inco Limited. Mr. Selby holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
Roger Walsh – B.Bus., CA – Director
Mr. Walsh is the President & CEO of Rapier Gold Inc. and before that served as Vice President of Corporate Development of Aurizon Mines Ltd . Prior to this position, he had served in the same capacity at Jinshan Gold Mines Inc. and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. . Prior to joining Ivanhoe, Mr. Walsh was a founding partner and President of Geographe Corporate Advisory Limited, providing advisory services to the international mining sector. Mr. Walsh holds a Bachelor of Business degree and was qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Australia, with Price Waterhouse.
